Apple Maps is inching closer to that of its rival Google Maps when it comes features. The service has started supporting turn-by-turn navigation in India. The iPhone maker has confirmed the news to The Next Web. The feature was recently spotted by some iOS users in India who took it on Twitter to talk about it.

Like in Google Maps, the turn-by-turn navigation in Apple Maps shows users the directions for driving and walking. There’s also the integration of Ola and Uber so you can book cabs from inside Apple Maps without leaving the app. The Cupertino-based tech firm is yet to showcase the public transport options.

While this is a step up for Apple Maps in the country, it doesn’t seem enough to make Google Maps users on iPhone switch back to Apple Maps. The ‘fruit’ company still needs a lot to catch up with Google Maps in terms of features and ease of use.

It is worth adding that the turn-by-turn feature in Apple Maps has been there in select countries since past few years. As pointed out by VentureBeat, the feature comes a couple of years after Apple opened its Maps development centre in Hyderabad. Also said is that Apple already has ‘thousands’ of people working on developing the mapping service in India. The firm is also planning to expand the team further given the listing on its job portal.

On the global level, Apple recently added new locations for flyover, indoor maps and more. The flyover shows users 3D representation of certain areas. It is also possible to search for select shops inside malls or the airport.

On the other hand, Google at the ongoing CES 2019 conference, announced the integration of its Assistant inside Google Maps. The firm says that its Assistant can help navigate in Google Maps and share your ETA with friends and family using voice commands. It is also possible to use voice commands to text messages, play music and more.
